scientists have a pretty good idea on how near-death experiences these days. Honestly if you look up nde's on google you'll more likely end up on a scientific article than a more spiritual one.
Also remind yourself that for every near-death experience someone has, there are a dozen cases of people who we're "dead" for a moment and said there was nothing.
But you didnt link the article where the guys brain was thin and not gone that proves consciousness is not created in the brain the doesnt even have a frontal lobe.

And there are many nesr death experiences many people claim they witnessed things all around them after they were dead they described events that happened after death and claimed to be witnessing the events sometimes even looking down at their own bodies. Science cant prove y near death experiences happen and they also haven't proven consciousness is created in the brain

Just a couple of links that explain it

As for the near death experiences. There are tons of possible scientific explanations. It's absolutely no evidence of any afterlife. In fact, it pretty much gets countered by my point of there being a dozen people who didn't experience anything while being clinically dead for every person who has had a near death experience:

(There are tons of these articles)
ok none of the links say the mans brain is only really thin, here are a few quotes from the article you linked.

"In the past, researchers have suggested that consciousness might be linked to various specific brain regions - such as the claustrum, a thin sheet of neurons running between major brain regions, or the visual cortex.
But if those hypotheses were correct, then the French man shouldn't be conscious, with the majority of his brain damaged."

"brain scans revealed that his skull was mostly filled with fluid, leaving just a thin outer layer of actual brain tissue, with the internal part of his brain almost totally eroded away."

those articles themselves admit the case makes them rethink what makes us conscious none of them say that his brain is just really thin he is indeed missing 90% of his brain. as for the near death experiences. there are countless reports of near death experience and they all vary in details but they do happen the long running theory is that the brain releases chemicals at the time of death but this is only a theory. the point is no one really knows why people have near death experiences. just like they dont know why we have consciousness. its obviously not just because of a bunch of neurons firing because if that were the case then we'd have long since had artificial intelligence that rivaled or even surpassed ours.
Ok most of these are literally articles that used to think the same as y out but updated themselves because new information presented itself. This is not a very well known case with little information. But as soon as a little more presented itself we could explain it.
They thought like ypu and then admitted they were wrong because they didn't know everything
